Katie’s guide to good skin hydration in winter

What are the best products for skin hydration?

I’m a huge fan of Dermalogica. There are almost as many products in our bathroom as the salon ;). I have worked with many brands, including Espa, Dècelor, Clarins, Guinot, Elemis to name just a few.

The Dermalogica range is excellent value for money. A large cleanser usually lasts me 12 months.  I can honestly say my skin has never been better.

So what’s the key? “Good, Good, Good skin hydration!!”

So, you  may ask:

Why do I need to have skin hydration?

Layering on extra hydration during colder seasons will restore lost moisture and relieve dry, thirsty skin. Good skin hydration is key to maintaining your lipid barrier. This protects you from sensitivity and spots! It also prevents dark circles and keeps the fine lines and wrinkles in check.

Good hydration maintains your natural exfoliation. This is vital for youthful skin, especially in your mid twenties.  As you reach 25 years+ your skin renewal slows down and starts being classed as maturing skin! (I know that’s a bit of a shock for some!)

How do I maintain good skin hydration?

These are my all time “Top 5″ winter skin hydrating products. I personally use them all. Some may be a surprise and some you may already have!

1. Multi Active Toner

A refreshing toner that rehydrates with Aloe Vera and Cucumber. Mist over skin after cleansing to reduce tightness, lock in moisture and enhance absorption of boosters and moisturisers. If you have a travel size from your skin kit, pop it in your handbag or get an atomiser. Multi Active Toner can be spritzed onto your skin ‘over’ makeup throughout the day.

2. Hydrating Booster

A super-fluid that hydrates tissues and plumps parched skin. Hyaluronic Acid, found in Skin Hydrating Booster, has the ability to hold 1000 times its weight in water for powerful hydration. It’s additional ingredients aid skin repair and help restore moisture balance for soft skin.

I apply 6 to 10 drops directly to my skin, under my day moisturizer. Especially during the winter months, I blend a drop with my eye cream, mix with my masque and I also use with my night cream.

3. Skin Resurfacer

It sweeps away flakey, dull skin cells and gently smoothes and brightens while hydrating the skin at the same time. It comes in a metal tin and inside are a number of pads. The pad is glided over the skin, each pad has enough product on the pad to use over the entire face and décolleté. I use the excess on either my heels or cuticles.

4. Intensive Eye Repair

This hydrating eye cream targets dehydration and repairs dry skin and lines around the eyes. It combats signs of premature aging and damage, whilst helping increase elasticity and smooth skin texture. Additional vitamins and nutrients will also shield the delicate eye area against further environmental damage. I use this after cleansing and use around a pea size amount. Gently pat around the eye area, blending inward from the outer corner. It can be applied over Extra Firming Booster or Skin Hydrating Booster.

5. Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque

I just love this product! Perfect for mature or prematurely-aging skin. This ultra-replenishing, antioxidant rich masque helps rescue stressed or aging skin. I use this once a week after cleansing. It is a revitalizing remedy for dulling, dry, dehydrated, lackluster, photo-damaged skin. It’s soothing botanicals help calm stressed skin, while vitamins A, C and E help repair damaged, aging skin.

It’s formulated without artificial fragrances and colours. For an extra boost before a special occasion I mix this with multivitamin thermofoliant, the results are amazing!

Enjoy looking after you skin this winter.
